As both professional dancer and self-taught costume and fashion designer, Yumiko Takeshima's remarkable talents have won her a growing legion of fans in countries though out the world.

Yumi made her first public appearance on August 5th, 1970 in the village of Asahikawa Japan. At the age of four, she asked her parents for dance lessons. They humored her request, never dreaming it would lead to a professional dance career with renowned companies in both Europe and America. Currently a principle dancer with the Dutch National Ballet, Yumi is also devoted to the pursuit of her second life passion, costume and fashion design.
Born to a family in the Kimono business for nearly a century, Yumi has a great love for the traditional Japanese garment with its distinctively gorgeous fabrics and simple elegance of design. This innate appreciation for the Kimono, combined with her understanding of movement, has given Yumiko's signature creations a unique sense of style and drama.
